5 Steps To Improving Your General Health

Written by Chloe Harwood

Hands up, who could do more to maintain a healthy lifestyle? Yep, I think that’s all of us. Everyone wishes they were a little better at staying healthy, but unfortunately we all have our vices! Perhaps it’s a little too much chocolate in the evenings. Maybe it’s the occasional cigarette during a stressful day at work, or an extra glass of wine at dinner. There’s nothing wrong with indulging ourselves every now and then. However, everything in moderation, right? There are plenty of things you can do to maintain a healthy lifestyle without compromising all the things you love. Let’s get started, shall we?

  1. Improve your diet

You might have guessed we’d start with your diet! Unfortunately, your diet is at the heart of everything you do. With that in mind, it’s crucial that you make small changes to improve your intake. We’re not talking about major alterations here. Trying to overhaul your diet all at once won’t work, and you’ll soon revert back to the old temptations! Instead, try to make small, but effective changes. Add an extra piece of fruit or veg into your daily diet. Remove sugar, and cut down on saturated fats. Try to drink more water too, it makes a huge difference.

  1. Regular aerobic exercise

The experts suggest you need to increase your heart rate for 30 minutes three times a week. That doesn’t sound like too much, does it? When you think of it like that, it’s easy to find a little time to squeeze in aerobic exercises. It could be as simple as taking a quick walk to work twice a week. Get the rusty old bike out and take a half-hour bike ride. It’ll help keep you healthy and burn fat fast. There are plenty of ways to squeeze exercise into your routine. You just need to make time for it, and schedule it in.

  1. Monitor your vital health

Altering your diet and exercise routine should increase your overall health significantly. It will help ward off illnesses, and keep dangerous heart conditions at bay. However, you can’t prevent every illness with fruit and veg alone! We always advise people to use diagnostic equipment at home to monitor their vital statistics. Keep track of your regular heartbeat and pulse, for example. You can also measure your blood pressure, and keep track of your BMI. Check your body for lumps, and make a note of any changes or abnormal features.

  1. Visit your doctor regularly

Keeping track of your vital statistics is essential, but nothing beats visiting your doctor for a checkup. Hopefully, a checkup will simply confirm that all is well and good in your body! However, some illnesses are difficult to spot, and it takes a doctor’s eye to catch it. Always schedule an annual checkup, just in case.

  1. Get plenty of sleep

Lastly, nothing beats a solid eight hours of beauty sleep! Sleep is the best way to restore your body’s vital functions, and repair essential damage. Eight hours a night will keep you feeling healthy, and ward off those pesky illnesses.

These simple changes to your lifestyle will help improve your general health. What could you do differently?
