Big Brothers

Written by Chloe Harwood

The big brothers to the 2020 Ram 1500 series trucks, the Ram 2500 and 3500, are all about extreme hauling while providing extreme comfort. With a new, stronger frame and powerful new engines, these award-winning trucks also offer the best interiors in the segment with luxury-car details and rides.

Power – Our local Ram dealer, Okeechobee Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram informs us that three engines are available in the Ram 2500 and 3500 series trucks. Standard is a 410-hp 6.4-liter V-8 with a respectable 429 lb-ft of torque. This is the only engine offered in the 4×4 Power Wagon, but all other models can be obtained with an optional 6.7-liter Cummins turbo-diesel inline-six.

For diesel customers, two versions are available. The standard diesel is available in both 2500 and 3500 models and offers 370 horsepower with 850 lb-ft of torque. The 400-hp HO version, which is only available on the 3500, puts out an incredible 1000 lb-ft of torque. Both engines are backed by a heavy-duty six-speed automatic.

Safety – The 2020 Ram 2500/3500 trucks are equipped with many driver-assistance features. Most trim levels get standard front and rear parking sensors, while an optional Safety Group package includes forward-collision mitigation with automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring with trailer coverage, and lane-keeping assist adaptive cruise control.

Interior – Owners of the Ram 1500 Big Horn Quad Cab will tell you that the folks at Ram sure know how to jazz up an interior and the Ram 2500 and 3500 series are no exception. The Ram’s extensive number of trim levels and cab styles mean its interior materials, passenger space, and tech features vary. At the top end, the top Longhorn trim gets striped wood and gold trim on the dash, doors, and gauges along with the Longhorn logo hand-branded into the wood on the truck’s glovebox door. The remaining trims aren’t quite as opulent but are very nicely appointed.

Infotainment – Ram also packs the 2020 2500/3500 with in-cabin tech that rivals the best out there. The standard infotainment screen is 8” but customers can also option a giant 12.0-inch touchscreen. For all your mobile devices, the truck offers a total of five USB ports and three 115-volt outlets.

Warranty Coverage – With a three-year or 36,000-mile warranty, the 2020 Ram 2500/3500 series gets the same standard coverage as every other Ram truck. Its powertrain warranty covers its gas engine for five years or 60,000 miles and the Cummins diesel engines for five years or 100,000 miles.
