Four Ways To Keep Your Employees Happy

Written by Chloe Harwood

In some ways, your workforce is the most important part of your business. You need their best work. Until technology evolves to the point of AI bots, you need them. With this in mind, it is important to keep them happy. How you do this is up to you, but we have got some ideas that may help.

Get To Know Them

We know you will have investigated their past careers and work experience. But when you hired them did you get to know them in a personal way? Did you find out about their hobbies? Perhaps there are some you share. Do you know their pet peeves? You may be able to make their work environment more comfortable. We know you want to separate yourself from any emotional attachments with your employees. You are the one that is going to hire and fire them. You have to keep a clear mind. But if you get the chance, do make the effort to get to know them. You might be pleasantly surprised by what you discover.

Show You Care

It is easy to show your employees you care about them. You do not have to form any attachment or even get to know them. Show you understand when they need to book a holiday. Do the best you can to give them the date you want. This may not always be possible, but you should make the effort. Failing that, be sure to celebrate the holidays. You do not have to do this in a big way. There is no need to play festive music through the office or spray fake snow everywhere. But you are going to send Christmas cards out to your clients. Why not do the same with your employees? It will not cost a lot and you can save paper usage. There are companies that provide bulk holiday ecards for business at very affordable pricing.

Open Door Policy

Again, we do realize there needs to be the distance between your employees and you. But, through the right channels your employees should feel they can come to you. There are two reasons this is important. First, they need to know you will be there if they are facing any difficulties at work. Secondly, they may have some good proposals on how you can improve your business. You should never be too quick to turn down help or expertise from a reliable source.

Keep Them Safe

Finally, do make sure to keep health and safety levels high at all times. You do not need to be silly about this. There does not need to be warning signs everywhere. Just make sure employees know that if there is a hazard it is more important to fix it then carry on with their work. Ensure that if there are any issues you deal with them as soon as they are found. You should do a safety check through the office each morning before you begin work. This way you are protecting your employees well being. But you are also protecting your business from any personal injury lawsuits.
